Rotary Changeover
The annual changeover function for the Rotary Club of Bacchus Marsh was held on June 18th.
This year the function took the form of an old-style country dance where the formalities and ceremonies were presented in between brackets of dancing. The music was provided by Gordon McKenzie’s well-known group, “The Hat Band” and supper was made up by the traditional ‘bring a plate’ system.
Outgoing president David Stewart presented his report on the past year’s Club activities and achievements. (see separate entry) and presented a number of special awards to individuals. Paul Harris Fellowships were presented to Miranda Brockman, Russell Dodemaide and Neil McDonald. A Royce Abbey Award was presented to James Devenny and Room 711 Awards were presented to Geoff Camm and Jock Taylor. To honour their continued exceptional service to Rotary, Russell Gilbert and john Lucas were presented with Sapphire Paul Harris Awards. Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to Alan Morton, Judy Auty, Ken Sheehan and Joce Williams.
After being inducted as the President of the Rotary Club of Bacchus Marsh, Geoff Camm then presented the new Board for 2010-11. Board members and their portfolios are: Geoff Camm (President), Ian Morris (Secretary), Russell Gilbert (Treasurer), Alan Morton (Club Service), David Stewart (International), Patriece Shelly (Community), John Lucas (New Generations), Tim Hawken (Membership), James Devenny (Public relations and media liaison), Jock Taylor (Fund-raising), Peter Kay (Foundation), and Joce Williams (Special Projects).
President Geoff then outlined his goals and some of the projects that the club would be undertaking during his year. Geoff’s first goal was for the club to operate smoothly and happily. Other goals included encouraging and supporting members to take up opportunities for personal and leadership development, to increase net membership, to enhance Rotary’s public image and to implement successful service projects that address the needs of our community and communities in other countries. He also outined his vision for enhancing a sense of civic pride in Bacchus Marsh by the aquisition of public statues which celebrate some of the recognised high achievers who have come from Bacchus Marsh.
The first event which the Club will undertake for the new Rotary year will be a Men’s Health Night focussing on depression and mental health which will take place on July 8th in the Supper Room, Public Hall at 7.30 p.m. This will feature a speaker from the Beyondblue organisation.
Geoff also announced the introduction of a new club award - The Alf Wignell Award - which will be a perpetual award for members who demonstrate commitment to Rotary values and service.
