Aquatic Centre for Bacchus Marsh

About August 2007, the Club identified an aquatic centre for Bacchus Marsh as a major project for its attention. Members believe that an aquatic centre is needed and would be supportive of all community groups and their interests:

  • The young: learn to swim, water safety
  • Therapeutic purposes for those recovering from sports injuries, surgical treatments, the elderly, the disabled
  • Water based sports and recreation
  • Classes: pre-natal classes, babies and toddlers classes, fitness classes

A project of this kind extends beyond the annual change-over of office bearers, and Bacchus Marsh has now made a formal commitment across three years:

Current year: 2007-2008

Incoming President: Beverely Barnes, 2008-2009

President Elect: David Stewart, 2009-2010.

We can’t raise the entire amount needed for the aquatic centre; we can work with the Shire of Moorabool and with the community of Bacchus Marsh to raise the investment funds needed for this facility.

At this stage, the Club is engaged in gathering information on the level of potential demand for an aquatic centre, and the Shire is engaged in a feasibility study which will provide advice on issues like cost, location, maintenance and recurrent cost issues, design and so forth. If the Shire decides to proceed with making a submission to the State Government for funding an aquatic centre for Bacchus Marsh, our Club will then take up a more active role in community investment and communications.
